Homer S. Arnold, M.D.

Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons of TexasH.S. Arnold, M.D., has practiced with Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons since 1967 and served as president of the group for 23 years. Dr. Arnold is a retired Navy captain having served in WWII and overseas in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He is originally from Arcata, California.

After receiving his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Dr. Arnold completed an internship at Wesley Memorial Hospital. He then completed a General Surgery residency at the U.S.N.H. in Bethesda, MD and in Oakland, CA. His Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery residency was completed at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr. Arnold is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Throughout his career, Dr. Arnold has been honored by numerous professional assignments and leadership appointments. He was named Head of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at U.S.N.H. at St. Albans, NY, Chief of Staff at Brackenridge Hospital, President of the Travis County Medical Society and Chief of Surgery at Seton Medical Center. Dr. Arnold served as the team physician for the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team. At the Central Texas Heart Institute, Dr. Arnold served as Associate Director for five years and as Director for four years. He also served on the Ethicon Faculty for VATS (video-assisted thoracic surgery). He is currently a member of many professional organizations and has published a variety of research articles.

Dr. Arnold was named Physician of the Year at Brackenridge Hospital in 1987 and Physician of the Year by the Travis County Medical Society in 1993.
